嫌 to dislike

嫌 is a verb meaning " dislike; complain of; be dissatisfied at". It is usually followed by a clause.  For example, 

• 她常常嫌菜不好吃。She always complains of the food.
• 大家都嫌他脾气太急。Everybody disliked him because of his hot temper.
• 你真好，不嫌麻烦地来帮助我。It's very kind of you to take the trouble to help me.
• 儿不嫌母丑，狗不嫌家贫。A son never thinks his mother ugly, and a dog never shuns its owner’s home however shabby it is. This proverb reminds us never to despise those nearest and dearest to us , no matter how plain and insignificant they are.
