v1 ＋ 以后，v2...

We learned the structure "...的时候" to describe two simultaneous actions, meaning "at the time when". However, in a sentence of the pattern "v1 ＋ 以后，v2...", the second action take place after the first one. For example, 

• 他走的时候忘记带钱包。He forgot to take his wallet when he left.
• 他走了以后，才想起来忘了带钱包。He didn't realize until he had left hat he had forgotten to take the wallet with him.
